My Fail Detroit Story: Get On Your Boots

By Emily A. Hay

Listen to FailDetroit Co-Founder, Brandon Helderop, and Emily A. Hay discuss FailDetroit on the Internet Advisor show on WJR 760AM Detroit.

I recently had the honor – and challenge- to contribute to this fresh and productive effort by Brandon Helderop, @B_Helderop and William B, @SirWillTheGreat by submitting my own personal failure story titled, Get on your boots: How failing at one idea led me to small business ownership.”

In case you are still a bit confused on how a website about failure in Detroit can be a good thing, here’s a snapshot of what the site is all about:

From FailDetroit.com:

“Fail Detroit is a community of entrepreneurs and innovators who believe in the notion “it’s not how you start, but how you finish”. We concede that while failures and mistakes can be painful and humiliating, many times they are an essential prerequisite to the attainment of our goals.

While the City of Detroit has had its share of failures throughout its history, we know that failure is not its final outcome. Each and every day, Detroit advances forward as a result of the lessons that have been learned through its trials and missteps. As Detroiters, we believe that the best is yet to come.

Fail Detroit’s mission is to empower entrepreneurs and innovators in the Metro Detroit community and beyond by sharing stories of perseverance through failure and the lessons that were acquired from those experiences. Our hope is that through this, fellow Metro Detroiters and beyond will be inspired to reach new heights which, in turn, benefits the advancement of Detroit and the State of Michigan.”

Fail Detroit lives by the mantra, “We all fail. Learn from it.”  This is so true; life is too short to make all the mistakes yourself. I encourage you to visit the site and browse the wide range of personal stories shared. Not only will you learn a thing or two but you will be sure to walk away more inspired and ready to conquer your own fear of failure.

Now go get on your boots.
