Discussing Freelance and Upskilling on CBS News Detroit

How Moms Can Get Back to Themselves When Kids Go Back To School

Emily A. Hay (left) speaking on CBS News about freelancing and upskilling

What’s truly “the most wonderful time of the year?”  You guessed it — back to school!  With a new school year comes parents buying new lunchboxes, folders and backpacks for a fresh start and new opportunity.

That’s right — kids get back into routine and parents get some freedom.  {{Whew!!}}

And with more freedom, comes an opportunity for moms to get back to themselves and ask what do I WANT to do with my time now?  What’s next for me professionally?

  • 37% of women are actively looking for new jobs. (According to ResumeBuilder, January 2023)
  • In 2019, candidates with work history gaps, such as one from full-time caregiving, had a 45% lower chance of getting called in for job interviews than those without gaps. (Yahoo Finance)
    • Post-pandemic: this is changing, but it’s still very important to be able to share what you did during that gap
  • New career path or current career advancement can be incredibly difficult when 59% of employees report no formal workplace training offered (Zippia.com, March 2023)

But the good news is, there ARE immediate steps women can take to give THEMSELVES a fresh start and new opportunity.

As Founder of Hay There Social Media, Emily A. Hay highly recommend that women looking for what’s next consider freelance and upskilling.

Check out the segment on CBS News where she discusses how women can get their freelance careers started so they don’t have a resume gap and so they advance their current skills and knowledge.
